 Review

Weber Smokey Mountain is one of the most common smoking foods fuelled products made by charcoal on the market. It has basically revolutionized barbecue smoker, taking this and almost everything that can safely and easily be smoked to the backyard. The 14.5-inch version of this smoker is small and will not smoke food for an army, but it will allow anyone to smoke a few racks of ribs or a whole or two genuine-flavored chickens. It’s small, but if the need is equally small, this smoker is reliable, does not take a lot of charcoal, and can be mastered in an afternoon.

Easy Assembly

Weber’s 14-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker has many of the consistency hallmarks that you would expect from the Weber line. The metal body is painted with black enamel, matching the iconic look of Weber. The grates are chrome plated as well, just as you would find with the high-end grills in their line.

Grilling Performance

When it comes to using it as a smoker, you can be shocked at how the Weber 14-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker can handle the temperature range. If you are very patient, you can dial the heat down to the 180 to the 200-degree range with the ventilation, and you use soaked wood chunks instead of chips. The Smokey Mountain Cooker can reach as high as 400 degrees if you open it up and you create a solid coal bed.

Grilling Areas

You get 154 square inches of cooking space or a total of 308 with the two 14-inch chrome-plated grill grates. If you break it down into portions, this is not enough to fit a complete rack of ribs. Even two butterfly chickens will smoke you.

Special Features

With a probe thermometer, the silicone grommet in the smoker’s body is useful for tracking the meat’s internal temperature. Most other bullet grills don’t have a feature like this in this range.

The multiple lower dampers in the airflow and flame are also nice for dialing.

Technically, the side access door is a special feature, but it leaks a little more smoke than you would like.

Ease to Clean

It can be a bit of a pain in the neck to get the ash out of the bottom of the Weber 14-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker. In the universe, reaching down and scooping out isn’t the easiest thing.

Conclusion

The Weber 14-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker deserves a little consideration as the best vertical pellet smoker available on the market if you are on the lookout for a charcoal bullet or barrel smoker. The side access door leaks a bit and can’t handle big pieces of meat such as beef brisket. Even to smoke most of the things you want, it has enough consistency and value and can even be used as a grill in a pinch.

Pros

• Weber quality

• Backed by a superior warranty

• Two cooking grates

• Silicone grommet for a probe thermometer

• Side access door to reload charcoal and wood

Cons

• Side access door leaks

• Grates are a little sticky

• Difficult to clean the ash out of the bottom

2. Weber 22-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker, Charcoal Smoker

Weber 22-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker, Charcoal Smoker

You’ve already seen photos of the fantastic smokers that every year hit this barbecue competition circuit. Custom smokers, the pride of serious barbecue cooks, cost tens of thousands of dollars (or more). Well, there are probably a dozen Weber Smokey Mountains for every one of them on the route (WSMs). Such easy-to-use smokers produce outstanding barbecue, costing a whole lot less for very long periods to sustain temperatures (list price is $ 499, but $ 399 can be found).

With this sort of success, Weber has finally come up with a bigger version of this smoker. The 22.5-inch Smokey Mountain is ideal for the person who wants to create a lot of barbecues, with 726 square inches of cooking space split between two cooking surfaces.

Easy to use

What is particularly good about this size is that it holds whole racks of spare ribs more readily, in addition to giving you ample room for 60 pounds of pork butts or even four large turkeys.

Grilling performance

With this model, a lid-mounted thermometer is a necessary addition attached to the WSM. In order to put in a thermometer, people had previously drilled holes in this smoker so they could measure the cooking temperature without opening the door.

Temperature Control

The large thermometer built in this device is precise and split at the 5-degree point, giving it a high level of precision. A bottom heat shield is often added to help cover any surface that is placed on by the smoker. This heat shield often tends to impact the smoker’s efficiency by reflecting heat upwards.

Custom made

On one side, the front access door is a little flimsy, so you should be careful not to bend it out of shape. The benefit of this is that you can “custom” suit it to stay best in the smoke.

Pros

The superior architecture of airflow retains still, steady temperatures.

Several vents allow you to compensate for the wind.

Sealed construction helps you to shut down this smoker, saving charcoal for the next time

• Huge cooking space holds a lot of food

Cons

• A little flimsy is the front entry door.

The door can be bent out of shape.

Conclusion

Weber stepped up with this super-sized version considering the Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) Smoker’s enormous success. For the competition cook or someone who wants to be able to turn out up to 60 pounds of barbecue, this unit is excellent, with 726 square inches of cooking space. This unit performs just as well as its smaller predecessor, with excellent temperature control, long unassisted cooking times, and comfortable use. So if you imagine buying a smoker this year, you must consider the best vertical pellet smokers on the market.

3. Masterbuilt MB20071117 Digital Electric Smoker, 30 inches, Black

Masterbuilt MB20071117 Digital Electric Smoker, 30 inches, Black

Is it worth purchasing the Masterbuilt 30? Are we recommending them? To see if it’s right for you, find out the review in our helpful analysis that looks at this model in-depth.

Electric Heating Element

If gas is out of the question, and you don’t want to mess around with charcoal, these electric smokers allow you to smoke to your heart’s content.

You can easily start and monitor it, it gets up to temperature in a rush, and you can always use real wood chips for smoking.

Insulated Body

The body is fully insulated; less heat loss, more stable weather, and more reliable cooking times are ensured. This is particularly useful for those who live in areas where in the fall and winter cool off, which can play havoc with inner smoker temps.

Integrated Thermostat

One of the keys to healthy smoking is to know what temperature the smoker is working at. Throughout the process, it is essential to maintain a constant temperature, and having a built-in thermostat helps to maintain the desired levels.

Top-Mounted Digital Control Panel

In the most convenient spot, right on top of the smoker, all the data you need is displayed. Your fingertips will be well clear of any hot spots when you set your time and temperature, and it’s easy to check.

Side Wood Chip Loading System

The opening of the door causes heat and smoke loss and adds time to your smoking. The convenient chip loading system helps you to get from the smoker’s side to the wood chip pan without having to open the door to remove the need to enter the smoking chamber.

Ease of Use

You’ll have no trouble using this machine if you can operate with an electric range. For instance, where it varies from an oven are the wood chips.

Cleaning and Maintenance

By running the unit at 275 F for 3 hours before use (always a good idea), Masterbuilt suggests seasoning your smoker, adding 1⁄2 cup of chips during the last 45 minutes. During the seasoning session, do not attempt to smoke any meat. Cleaning up is made easy with removable racks-just take them out and wipe them down, but you should stop using any chemicals.

 Available Support

On Facebook, there is an influential and involved group of about 38,000 people. In the past month, the last time I checked, they had added more than 2,600 users, and members accounted for more than 1000 posts a day.

Conclusion

The Masterbuilt heats up easily without any fiddling around and keeps a steady internal temperature. All you need to do is plug it into an electric socket, and you’re ready for cooking.

If you’ve read our guide to the best beginner smokers, you already know we’re big fans of Masterbuilt electric digital smokers (MES for short).

Pros

• Adjustable temperature control

• Consistent cooking temperatures

• Manageable cooking area

• User-friendly operation

• Easy cleaning and maintenance

Cons

• A bit heavy on the electricity consumption

• The temperature gauge is not 100% accurate

• The temperature gauge is not 100% accurate

4. Dyna-Glo DGO1176BDC-D Vertical Offset Charcoal Smoker

Dyna-Glo DGO1176BDC-D Vertical Offset Charcoal Smoker

A vertical offset smoker is respected by many individuals who want to manufacture a barbecue at their own competition level. Using it to make your own connection and ring sausages or smoke your own slabs of bacon is also a handy thing. To add a pleasing smoky accent to the jerky before dehydrating, it is also possible to use an offset, vertical smoker.

Construction & Ease of Assembly

It is relatively easy to assemble since there are so few moving pieces. It would be great for a helper to have some things. Even so, it’s not expected to take you more than an hour, maybe an hour and a half, to have it fully assembled.

Grilling Performance

As long as it is not too cold outside, the Dyna-Glo DGO1176BDC-D Charcoal Offset Smoker will be able to handle just about anything you throw at it. One critique worth noting is that the size of the gates is a little limited. It might be a concern if you choose to smoke several racks of ribs or a full-size flat brisket.

Grilling Areas

The Dyna-Glo DGO1176BDC-D Charcoal Offset Smoker provides five cubic feet of smoking space. For a staggering total of 150 pounds, six grates can each carry up to 25 pounds of food. However, if you have it fully loaded to the max, you will need to rotate the grates every hour or so to ensure that each rack receives the same total amount of heat and smoke in the session.

Special Features

It is not really exclusive to the pull-out ashtray, but it sure helps with cleaning. During long smoking sessions, the porcelain coated charcoal fire and the wood box also allow you to quickly reload the smoker.

Ease to Clean

The wisest step is to line the primary chamber’s bottom with heavy-duty aluminum foil to assist with cleanup. You can then put your dripping pan, with water for added steam, on top of it. The pull-out ash pan also enables you to dispose of spent material without the scraping and scooping that you find with other offset smoker boxes.

Conclusion

A friendly price point and the ability to do anything you would expect it to do come with this vertical offset smoker. Only be aware of the season and break it properly and take the time to clean the grates and protect them.

Pros

• Removable ash pan

• Removable firebox

• Adjustable damper and smokestack

• Quick release door latch

Cons

• Short warranty period

• Needs to be broken in properly

• Thin metal heat retention issues in the cold

5. Masterbuilt MB20070210 Analog Electric Smoker with 3 Smoking Racks, 30 inches, Black

Masterbuilt MB20070210 Analog Electric Smoker with 3 Smoking Racks, 30 inches, Black

Are you and your family searching for the best electric smokers from Masterbuilt? You’ve found the right spot.

It takes time, consideration, and attention to detail to craft a great barbecue experience. If you’re looking for the perfect pulled pork sandwich or you’re dreaming of those super succulent BBQ ribs, the right equipment makes all the difference.

This guide to the best smokers from Masterbuilt that I’ve tested will put you on the right track.

Average Cost

Masterbuilt electric smokers are manufactured to give you suitable results for smoked food at a price that will not break the bank. I mean that the base units cost between $100 and $400 on average when I say this. Most of the units described in my post on pellet smoker reviews start at around the range of $400. So, you can see where you are in terms of the cost here.

Price

For Masterbuilt Electric Smokers, the price remains relatively low. Understand, this is because they are made overseas. You should take this point to realize that you might be someone who likes to buy and shy away from those made in, say, China for American Made products.

Durability and Value

If kept covered and out of the elements, the Masterbuilt electric smoker will last for a long time. The lower end units are not intended to be workhorses for everyday use, but these electric smokers’ average cooking volume does not allow for high volume anyway.

These electric smokers are intended for families of the average size who love smoked food.

Maintenance and Clean Up

As with any smoker, the prep work you do upfront makes a lot of difference with how much work you end up doing after the cook. Many users suggest that in disposable aluminum pans, putting your meat in or at least placing one at the bottom of your Masterbuilt electric smoker will catch drippings and decrease cleaning.

Conclusion

Although, whether you need an electric smoker with the smoky flavor of your favorite fruit or food, this one would come all along to beat other best vertical pellet smokers available in the market.

Pros

• Easy to use.

• 1500-watt heating element.

• 548 square inches.

Cons

• Better with an additional thermometer.

• No window.

• No side doors for adding wood chips.

However, the heating portion can struggle to reach optimum temperatures when temperatures get low in the winter.

Bluetooth Compatibility

This smoker has the control center of the touchscreen, which is best for your smartphone synchronization, making the Bradley Smart Smoker so advanced. This feature is called I Smoke® Technology and links your smartphone to the smoker using Bluetooth.

7. Char-Broil Analog Electric Smoker

Char-Broil Analog Electric Smoker

The most simple machines sometimes have the most consistent and reliable results for us. The Char-Broil Analog Electric Smoker seems to be the ticket for those looking for a smoker that offers clear results in terms of versatility. Based on my research, this smoker provides versatility for small or large projects to achieve killer smoked food!

 Build Quality and Design

What I like about this smoker is that he’s an industrial cleaner. It’s built for power and looks like it’s going to last for decades. It has a wide cooking area of approximately 544 square inches. With the option of buying a third, it comprises three grates. The wood chip box is massive, resulting in less filling and more hours of interruption-free smoking. The internal temperature gauge is analog and mounted on the smoker’s front door for fast and simple reading without touching any smoker part.

 Capacity

Three chrome-plated steel cooking grills that equal 544 square inches of the cooking area come with the Char-broil Analog Electric Smoker. You can purchase an additional grill to add an additional 181 inches of space. You’ll want to keep in mind that when you use all the grills in your smoker, tall stuff such as whole chickens or roast will not fit in your smoker. We advise you to leave empty the top rack space and position your larger products near the top.

Insulation

Given the expense of this smoker, due to double-wall insulated construction, it retains temperature extremely well. Despite the absence of a gasket, we assume the door is also well insulated with a good seal.

 Accessories

A grease cup, a wood chip tray, and a water tray are included with all the standard items. The included drip tray has convenient vent slots for steam to flow through and attachments for both the wood chip tray as well as the water tray.

Conclusion

This smoker fits the bill, whether you’re a beginner or seasoned smoker, with a thing for traditionalism. I love the simple industrial look and functionality, and it seems to produce actual results. It has the classic appeal that so many are looking for, though at the same time offering delicious smoker delights. Definitely, I will give this one a shot.

Pros

• Easy to load.

• Easy to access in the lower right of the cabinet.

• Low price

Cons

• Adding wood chips is a problem.

• Lack of digital control

8. Backwoods Chubby 3400 22.5 x 20 x 31.5 Inch Portable Outdoor Cooking Charcoal BBQ Meat Water Smoker, Black

Backwoods Chubby 3400 22.5 x 20 x 31.5 Inch Portable Outdoor Cooking Charcoal BBQ Meat Water Smoker, Black

It is one of the best vertical pellet smokers that seem very compact, weighing at just 130lbs, whether you’re cooking on-site for a family dinner or taking camping trips with your friends.

Insulated

With one inch of insulation, the Backwoods Chubby 3400 comes as usual. In certain heavy hitters, the steel is not as dense as the quarter-inch rolled steel you see, but the double-walled insulated structure helps keep the temperature constant for hours on end, close to how a Yeti double-walled cooler works.

Cooking capacity

It’s small enough for Chubby to sit on a tabletop, but there’s a big cooking space. “It has enough space to simultaneously cook a brisket, leg and thigh combos, a rack of ribs, and a pork butt!” says Backwoods Smoker.”

Steady temperature control

With no added thermal regulators, the design and layout of the Backwoods Chubby 3400 enable succinct temperature control. With three airflow vents, it needs some dialing in, but once you get to know your smoker, setting it up for reliable low-and-slow cooking is a breeze.

Portability

This smoker is remarkably lightweight for the amount of food you can prepare. It’s easier to load it into the car with two people, but it can be achieved with one person. By adding caster wheels to the pre-drilled holes, it’s much simpler to move it around.

Conclusion

The Backwoods Chubby 3400 is an excellent alternative if you’re looking for a move up from the Weber Smokey Mountain inconsistency and cooking scale.

You can cook in your neighborhood for your little league squad or hit the road and take part in some BBQ tournaments, all with the same high-quality smoker.

Pros

• Easy to use.

• Best allows controlling temperature

• Made of insulating materials

• Lightweight.

Cons

• No standard drip guard.

• Water pan cleanup

9. Masterbuilt MB20051316 Propane Smoker with Thermostat Control, 40 inches, Black

Masterbuilt MB20051316 Propane Smoker with Thermostat Control, 40 inches, Black

The Masterbuilt MPS 340G, with some special technology, is a high-end model. Depending on the temperature, many gas smokers require you to adjust the propane flow, which can become even more difficult with an inaccurate built-in gauge. This ThermoTemp model from Masterbuilt, on the other hand, takes care to monitor the propane flow for you. Picking the desired temperature is all you have to do.

Great Assembly

Its dual-door configuration is another great feature provided by this Masterbuilt smoker. By installing a second, separate door below the main door without losing any heat from the main compartment, Masterbuilt has made it simple to add new wood chips to the smoker. Speaking of which, the main cooking area comes with four chrome-coated shelves.

Construction

Crafted with stainless steel of the highest quality, this is a highly robust smoker that will serve you longer. The smoker is powder-coated, meaning it’s resistant to rust and corrosion. In order to help conserve the fuel and guarantee safety requirements, the commodity was insulated entirely. The smoker has a double-wall design to add more, which makes it very stable and reliable for long-term use.

Large Cooking Area

Again, it has two doors of access that make it very powerful. Other than this, it has a bigger cooking surface, and you can use it even in smaller spaces with a sleek style.

Conclusion

The ThermoTemp line from Masterbuilt effectively makes ground-breaking use of thermostatic control at a reasonable price for a gas smoker. Will Masterbuilt, as we have long hoped, open the floodgates and begin a thermostatic control revolution, not just for gas smokers, but for gas grills as well? We’ll be watching, crossing fingers.

Pros

Thermo Temp technology reliably maintains the temperature selected

Security • (Burner automatically shuts off if the flame goes out)

Convenient window to check food

Cons

• No thermometer built-in

Heavyweight (~103 pounds)
